General Practice Residency and Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Optional but competitive. Signals commitment to clinical excellence and opens specialty doors.

Licensing exams
NDEB in Canada. NBDE Part I and II in the US. Both run close to clinical graduation and require dedicated preparation alongside clinical work.

Specialty training
Orthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery — each requires 2 to 6 additional years. Planning for this starts in second year of dental school, not at graduation.
